Why connect Grok Bot
Grok Bot can read a bank export, reason about it and write a spreadsheet in its own sandbox. What it cannot do on its own is keep that spreadsheet coherent once you start asking for changes: a new assumption, a second scenario, a month of actuals. Every rerun is a new file, and the formulas you check today are not the ones you get tomorrow.
With Layerz connected, Grok Bot builds the model in Layerz instead. Assumptions, formulas and timelines live in one structure that persists between sessions. The agent patches it, reads the computed result back, and exports Excel when you need a file.
What we tested
We connected Grok Bot (desktop 0.78.1, macOS) on 3 November 2026 and gave it a fictitious French bank statement (87 lines, July to October 2026) with a fractional CFO brief: build a cash forecast from the statement, then export it to Excel.
- Setup: one sentence in the chat, one OAuth click, every Layerz tool ready.
- Run: Grok Bot read the workspace conventions first, created the model, built it from a blueprint, corrected it with one patch, read it back and exported it. Every call succeeded.
- Time: about six minutes from prompt to final answer, under two of them inside Layerz.
- Check: the monthly closing cash in Layerz matched the agent's own working to the cent.
What you get
- A model that survives the next question. Change an assumption and everything downstream recomputes. No rebuilt spreadsheet.
- Scenarios on branches. Ask for a downside case without touching the base plan.
- Excel with live formulas. The export is the model, not a pasted copy of numbers.
- History. Every change the agent makes is a version you can review and roll back.
Honest limits
- Grok Bot recognises your bank export but may compute figures itself rather than upload the file to Layerz. Ask it explicitly to import the file if you want the transactions inside the model.
- Grok Bot is in beta and its connector settings change between versions. If the chat sentence does not work, use Connect apps, then custom, with the same URL.
- Layerz models your numbers. It is not a bank, a bookkeeping tool or a replacement for your accountant's review.
